THE CHARITY BALL

Recognised as one of the outstanding events in the social calendar, the charity ball, to be held in the Town Hall on Tuesday next, promsies to be fully up to the standard of its predecessors. This year the proceeds will be devoted to the Plunket Society and. the St. Vincent de Paul Orphanages. Consequently, with such laudable objects, combined with many attractive features, this year’s charity ball should not fail to have universal appeal. For a big and varied prognnnie of dances the Savonia Dance Band of nine players has been engaged, and to assure that tho volume of music is adequately maintained in every part of the hall, the committee has arranged for the installation of a sound system. Tho large number of applications already received from intending debutantes for presentation to Bishop Whyte indicates that this year’s ceremony is likely to bo one of the most spectacular to date. As in previous years, no effort is being spared to achieve the best possible decorative effects, and the committee responsible for this work has evolved a particularly attractive scheme, which will be in keeping with the spectacular effects of the charity balls of the past.

Always a feature of the charity ball, the supper arrangements are again in the hands of a ladies’ committee. To ensure the dancers’ comfort and for effective catering, tiekets have been definitely limited. Bookings for the ball and the gallery are at tho D.T.C.
