TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Taieri County Council was held yesterday, Cr George Stevenson (chairman) presiding. CORRESPONDENCE. Mr R. S. Brown, Dunedin, wrote regarding compensation for land taken for the Gladstone Highway.—Received. The Bruce County Council wrote in regard to repairs to tho Taieri Mouth bridge.—Held over in the meantime. The Taieri River Trust wrote regarding improvements to the culvert at the Silverstream Dairy Factory.—To receive attention. The District Employment Officer wrote regarding subsidies for men for the Lambhill Station scheme, and for clearing gorse at Brighton.—Received. REPORTS. The Inspector of Works (Mr Findlay), reported in detail on the surfacing work of the month and of work on the Taieri County Highways. The fall of snow experienced had made it impossible to carry out some of the work arranged for. Mr C. A. Aitken (traffic inspector], detailed the activities of the month in his department. The ranger reported on impounding* for the month. Some cows were still in the pound. RATES. The resolution, striking the rates for the current year, duo notice of which had been given, was confirmed. Tho rates are the same ns last year.
