Two of London’s biggest stations, Charing Cross and London Bridge, were paralysed last. evening, when flames from a firq which destroyed half the Borough market spread to the Southern Railways main electric cables near London Bridge. Cracks were later discovered in the brickwork of the bridge. One thousand passengers were stranded between 11 p.m. and 0.35 a.m., when the current was restored. The flames at one time threatened the Southwark Cathedral. Three hundred firemen fought the outbreak.
