It COULD happen here!

This is what happened to the defenceless town when enemy raiders passed over. Mutilation and death for non-combatants. No mercy is shown because you don’t wear a uniform, or because you can’t fight back. A sudden war of a few days only would be our enemy’s aim. To those who hold the view of futility that this Dominion is too small to resist an invader, there is the indisputable answer that the population of New Zealand, if trained and determined, could make invasion NOT WORTH WHILE. It is reasonable to Think that, in the event of war, an enemy will endeavour to gain control of this land, a source of food supplies for the Empire’s heart. But before an. attack is made the value of the objective must be weighed against the cost of acquiring it. THAT COST MUST BE MADE TOO HIGH. Our sea and increasing air forces must be backed by a strong force of civilians on the land itself —armed, trained, and ready.
