Messrs Harman Reeves and Charles Penman returned from Wellington yesterday, whore they attended a conference of the New Zealand Stock Exchanges. Mr F. W. Vickorman, of Foxton. has been appointed a member of the Flax Plan Industrial Committee in lieu of Mr S. 11. Maddcrn, who has resigned. Miss Doris Buchanan, senior tutor sister in the Waikato Public Hospital at Hamilton, has been appointed matron of the Southland Hospital in succession to Miss J. Ross, who is retiring Mr J. Robertson was reappointed the representative of the Otago High Schools Board on the Dunedin Vocational Guidance Association at the board’s meeting yesterday afternoon. Reference was made to the death of Mr John Claffey at the monthly meeting of the Forbury Park Trotting Chib last night, the president (Mr B. S. Irwin) reporting that he had been one of its oldest members. A motion of sympathy was carried. At a social function tendered by the Otago Swimming Centre last night. Mr E. 11. James expressed the pleasure of members that Mr W. H. Matthews, one of its most highly esteemed officials, was on the l oad to recovery after a very serious illness. It was decided to write to Mr Matthews,' conveying the good wishes of Otago swimmers for his speedy recovery. Guests at the City Hotel include Mr F. A. Andrews, Mr D. S. Wilkinson (Auckland); Miss L. King (Wellington) ; Mr P. Henderson (Christchurch). Latest registrations at the Carlton Hotel are Mr W. Threadingham (Wellington); Mr 11. J. Moore (Christchurch); Mrs \V. R. Williams (Oamaru); Mr and Mi's D. M. Crosby (Invercargill). Arriving to-morrow, on a visit to Dunedin is Dr A. D. Trendall. an Otago graduate, an ex-member of Selwyn College, and subsequently winner of first class in classical tripos, Cambridge. Dr Trendall has been responsible for much brilliant research work, and has already published two important books on the subject of archaeology. He was for two years librarian in the British School ol Archaeology. Rome, and,is now a fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge. During his stay in Dunedin Dr Trendall will be the guest of the of Selwyn. and will he associated with the department of classics in the < University of Otago. Tt is his intention also to deliver a series of lectures here.
