DRUNKEN DRIVING
GAOL FOR EX-BOXER [Pee United Press Association.] AUCKLAND,, May 19
A sentence of 14 days’ imprisonment was passed by Mr Orr Walker, S.M., in the Police Court on Archibald Hughes (35), an ex-light-weight provincial boxer, for being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car in Asquith Avenue at about 8 last night. The police said another motorist saw the ear approaching at fair speed. When 20yds away Hughes apparently became confused, and the car veered over, and the two vehicles collided. The other driver sent for the police, who found Hughes intoxicated and inclined to be abusive. ' Defending counsel said Hughes was a waterside worker and a highly respected citizen.
