CHANGEABLE IN WEST AND SOUTH Tho following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological' Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin. Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, . Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmoon Bay:— An anti-cyclone covers the southern portion of the Tasman Sea, while a depression is advancing across the central portion. Forecast: Moderate winds, westerly in the south,-but tending north-easterly north of. Dunedin ; changeable in the west-and south., with occasional showers; otherwise fair. Moderate temperatures. Seas slight north of Nugget Point; otherwise moderate to rather rough at times. IDEAL AFTER RAIN. Heavy rain last night cleared the atmosphere in Dunedin to pave the way for ideal conditions this morning. Bright sunshine appeared early, bringing temperatures up to a high level* while the sky was only lightly clouded. There was a light south-westerly breeze.Barometric pressure was steady at midday at 29.(Join, and there should be no marked changes in-- conditions during the afternoon. OTHER CENTRES. Except south of’Dunedin, winds over the east coast of the South Island this morning were light to moderate, while conditions as far north as Christchurch were good. Southern and more northerly areas were subject to changeable weather, with high winds and showers around Bluff. In the Cook Strait area there was a tendency to overcast skies and stronger winds, with passing showers. Generally, there were westerly or, north-westerly winds this morning, except around Christchurch, where the direction was easterly. Temperatures were higher at ‘ most centres than -yesterday. Christchurch recorded the greatest reading—72deg--while 52deg at Puysegur Point, was the least. Barometric -pressure ranged from 29.91in.at Auckland to 29.72 in at the Nuggets.
