REMOVES SCARS
■ ■» INJECTION OF " HUMAN OIL " A method of removing scars by injecting " human oil " is described by Mr Cecil P. G. Wakeley, senior surgeon at King's College, London. Knowing that human fat is fluid at body temperature, he writes, he obtained some from the fatty tissues of the abdomen. After isolation and sterilisation, the oil is injected in small quantities between the adherent bone and skin. The treatment is continued at fortnightly intervals until the adherent scar is made to " float " on the underlying structure. Twelve cases of adherent scars at the back of the hand have been treated by this method and have given uniformly good results. It is also valuable in many cases of facial burns in which the scar is adherent to the bone. Mr Wakeley quotes the case of a child who was terribly burned on the right side of the face, resulting in a long adherent scar. Twelve small injections of human oil resulted in a mobile scar, which" is gradually becoming more supple and less distinct;.'
