WARNER BAXTER STARRED
ROLE AS MILLIONAIRE TRAMP * I’ll Give a Million,’ the picture which will be commenced at the State to-morrow, is pointed out as an example of the impressive way in which Marjorie Weaver, who is starred opposite Warner Baxter, rises to the top of anything she attempts to achieve. Scarcely a year ago she was comparatively “ unknown.” In ‘ I’ll Give a Million,’ she provides the romantic interest for Warner Baxter, who is supported by a featured cast headed by Peter Lorre and Jean Hersholt—along with John Carradine, J. Edward Bromberg, Lynn Bari, and Fritz Feld. Darryl F. Zanuck, in charge of production, assigned Walter Lang to direct the screen play by Boris Ingster and Milton Sperling. It is from a story by Cosare Zavattini and Giaci Mondaini. Only the keen mind of smart writers could logically connect the glamour of high society and tho idea of a whole town in Southern Franee suddenly inaugurating kindness to tramps—just because Warner 'Baxter, seeking refuge from “hangers-on,” says he will give a million francs for a real friend. Baxter jumps from his palatial yacht to save Peter Lorre from drowning. The vessel sails on and Warner changes clothes with the rescued tramp. Lorre sallies forth the next day with his pockets full of French banknotes—and lets slip the story of the millionairetramp. From this point on the solicitude for tramps becomes epidemic. Baxter, of course, finds his wav to a circus, where he meets Marjorie Weaver, and a hectic romance reaches an astonishing conclusion.
