FORMBY FLIES
NOW AIR FORCE RECRUIT George Formby has received over 5,000 letters from Australia and New Zealand motion picture fans. The famous comedian revealed the fact during the production of ‘ it’s In the Air,’ his latest comedy, which will open a season at the Empire to-morrow. In the light of this fact, there is sure to be interest in a few points regarding the star’s new film. Formby is surrounded by a strong supporting cast and a female lead such as Polly Ward gives a balance of contrasting strength to the star’s comedy methods. It also has been treated far more lavishly from the viewpoint of settings and spectacle, and in it the comedian sings no less than three songs. Under the titles of ‘ Our Sergeant Major,’ ‘ You Can’t Fool Me,’ and ‘ It’s In the Air,’ all three have already found a heavy demand in record form from radio stations and the general public. In the picture, Formby is a young hopeful, who unconsciously becomes airminded, joins the R.A.F., and before he knows where he is, finds himself miles high in the sky at the controls of a nose-diving, tail-spinning, looping-the-loop bomber. Ho does everything but crash. In addition to Polly Ward, the supporting cast includes Frank Leighton, Garry Marsh, Jack Hobbs, and Julien Mitchell.
