HOLIDAY TRAVEL
HEAVY BOOKINGS MADE BY ROAD, RAIL, AND AIR Saturday will he the big day so far as railway, bus, and air transport is concerned during tho holiday period. In spite of the unpromising weather conditions a large proportion of tho population will be on the move in the quest of sunshine and relaxation. The railway booking officers have been inundated with inquiries for seats, and now almost tho only seats left are on the night trains, the others being completely booked. On the roads extra buses are being put on to cope with the heavy traffic, and at least four vehicles will be required on the Saturday trip on the Uamaru and Timaru route. Heavy hooking is also reported on the Central Otago routes, via Roxburgh and from Palmerston through Ranfurly. There have also been a considerable number of through bookings to Queenstown, the passengers connecting with tho bus from Mount Cook at Cromwell. Tho Eglinton Valley is also popular, and there are only a few seats left on the buses leaving on that tour on December 27 and' 31. As a rapid means of transport the airways are also receiving their share of the traffic, and an extra return trip is being flown between Palmerston North and Dunedin on Saturday. The regular services to-morrow and on Saturday are fully booked now, and there are only a few seats left on the special flight on Saturday. The machines on Christmas Day are also fully booked, after which they taper off to normal.
