IRON GUARD ACTIVITIES POLICE ORDERED TO SHOOT TERRORISTS AT SIGHT Press Association—By Telegraph—Coypright BUCHAREST, December 1. The police orders are “ to proceed with the greatest energy against all individuals committing acts of violence, shoot down terrorists at sight, and maintain orders at all costs. Policemen who hesitate to shoot will be punished in accordance with the existing laws.” Pamphlets addressed to King Carol were circulated in Bucharest yesterday, stating that as the Iron Guard had abandoned hope of reaching a peaceful' solution of their conflict with the Government they would adopt “ ocher measures.” A number of army officers suspected of Fascist sympathies have been relieved of their posts, these including General Antonescu, former War Minister, commanding the Third Army Corps. •
CULMINATING POINT OF PURGE BUCHAREST, December 1. (Received December 2, at 1 p.m.) Iron Guards set fire to 10 bouses and workshops at Czemowitz. Two were arrested. The Government organ, ‘Rumania,’ indicates that the shooting of M. Codreanu culminated a purge conducted by the political police throughout the country for several weeks. r A painful operation was necessary in view of the revival of terrorism by former Iron Guards, which became a constant threat to public order,” it stated.
