BURNSIDE STOCK SALE SHEEP AND LAMB VALUES DECLINE STORE CATTLE ALSO CHEAPER Several consignments from the north ■were included in the yarding of about 2,500 fat sheep at Burnside yesterday. Prime descriptions were forward in smaller numbers than usual, the bulk comprising light and medium-weight wethers and ewes. Best butchers’ sheep were in shorter supply, although selling in buyers’ favour by Is 6d. These, however, generally showed the least disparity in comparison with values at the sale a fortnight ago. All other classes depreciated to the extent of 2s to 3s. Values were, for prime heavy wethers, to 31s 6d; prime, 25s to 27s 6d; medium, 21s 6d to 235; light, from 16s 6d; prime heavy ewes, to 235; prime, 18s 6d to 20s; medium, 16s to 17s 6d; and light, from 13s. An entry in the fat lamb section numbering 270 proved in excess of requirements, resulting in a general decline of 2s on the average compared with values obtained a fortnight ago. *The quality on the whole was fairly good. Prices ranged from 18s to 28s 6d, according to quality and weight. There was a large yarding, numbering 350 head of store cattle. Included in the entry were some well-bred three and four-year-old station cattle, which met with fairly good competition at slightly reduced rates compared with the extreme prices ruling recently. Best bullocks realised from £9 15s to £ll 12s 6d, yearling steers £5 Is, wellbred two and a-half year old heifers from £5 Is to £6 10s. Vealers, which were in over supply, met with a slacker demand at reduced rates.
