TOWN V. COUNTRY [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, November 30. Weak batting marked the opening day's play in the annual Town v. Country match at the Basin Reserve. The Town eleven had first strike, and was going along promisingly with 83 for four wickets, when T. L. Pritchard came on for his second turn with the ball and completely altered the complexion of the innings by taking four wickets for 6 runs, and finishing up a fine bowling performance with sis wickets for 62 runs. J. A. Ongley made the top score for Town with 36 not out, and Rice, Hepburn, and Ell reached the twenties, hut the remainder of the batsmen made a feeble showing against the Country attack. The total reached 152. Modest as was the Town total, it looked as if the Country eleven would not reach it. Eight wickets were down for 118, when a courageous stand by Pritchard carried the score to 161 and enabled the Country to lead the Town by 9 runs on the first innings. Parsloe, O’Neill, and M’Keown howled well for the city eleven, the first-named taking four for 2S.
