CORRESPONDENCE
“RECKLESS MOTORISTS."
TO THE EDITOR. Sir—l have read “Taxi Driver’s” letter, in which he voices his protest in reference to my letter of the 28th instant. I desire to inform your correspondent that 1 am not a driver.; also, that 1 fully understand and realise the trials and tribulations of the average driver. 1 certainly did mention in my letter about jay walkers. But in my case I was not iay walking. I was well within the yellow lines mentioned by “ Taxi Driver.” Your correspondent goes on to talk of the North Island, Sydney, and Melbourne. AVould it please him to know that I have been In every country in the world with the exception of Japan and China? Ho will perhaps note that 1 am fairly well versed with traffic regulations. I would surest that the boot should be on the other foot. Instead of the authorities handing out type-written invitations to jav walkers, they should be handed out to careless motorists. lam still enthusiastic about traffic inspectors. 1 do not agree with your correspondent when he refers to the average citizens being in luck’s way when they meander across our streets. Very few people go jay walking nowadays. We have not got to go as far as Melbourne to bo “ deceased ” We can find it here in Dunedin. T would like to impress on “ Taxi Driver ” that the regulations laid* down are Government decrees. I am also fully aware that commissions are granted certain taxi drivers, not private men. but employees of large companies, and it is a little more than the few pence mentioned by “ Taxi Driver.” —T am, etc.. December 1, R. A. Donnelly.
