(Received December 1, at 10.25 a.m.) The laying of . the foundation stone of the Vbortrekker centenary memorial on Dingaan’s Day, December 16, will be responsible for a month s political truce, beginning at midnight.' This proposal was made by General Hertzog. Dr Malan, leader of tho Nationalist Republicans, and Colonel Stallard, leader of the extreme Lnglish speakers, accepted the olive branch. FDingaan was a Zulu chief who wiped out one of the Boer laagers at Weenen in 1838, but finally after some confused fighting, in which the English from Port Natal helped the Boers, the Boer leader Pretonus, with reinforcements from the Free State, crushed Dingaan at the Blood River in December. This victory is still celebrated throughout South Africa as Dingaan’s Day.]
