ARBITRATION COURT AWARD The Arbitration Court has filed its award covering the wages and working conditions of the New Zealand (except Marlborough) licensed bote’ clerical workers. The only matter referred to the court was the date of the coming into force of the new award, which has been dated November ‘ls, and which will continue in force till March 31, 1940. In so far as it relates to wages, the award shall be deemed to have come into force on September 2, 1938, wages having been mado payable retrospectively in accordance with the agreement of the parties. A 40-hour week will be observed, to be worked on 5-J days in each, week, but. wherever practicable, the week’s work is to be performed within five days. Male clerks are to be paid £4 Ss a week. In the case of females, where five or more are employed, the rates are to be £3 (first), £2 10s (second), £2 2s 6d (third), £1 15s (fourth), and £1 10s (others); where four are employed, £2 15s, £2 7s 6d, £2, and £1 15s; where three are employed, £2 10s, £2, £1 15s; where two are employed, £2 ss, £1 17s 6d; where one is employed, £2. In addition to the above wages every worker shall be entitled to board and lodging, subject to the following conditions ;—A separate bedroom with the usual service; meals in the hotel under the same conditions as the guests; where lodging accommodation is not available a lodging allowance of 10s a week to be paid; where inerh are not provided a meal allowance of £1 a week to be paid in lieu thereof.
