STANDING STRENGTH OF 1,000,000 MEN EVERY BATTALION HAS MACHINE GUN COMPANY (Independent Cable Service.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright BERLIN, November 29. (Received November 30, at 8 a.m.) The Army Year Book, published to-day, dealing with the recent reorganisation of the army, puts the standing strength of the German Army at 1,000,000 men, in sis army groups and 18 Array Corps. Every infantry battalion has a machine gun company, which is now made up of two platoons with four guns each. The third platoon is equipped with heavy grenadethrowers.
The infantry is also with light grenade-throwers for clearing out machine gun nests. There are five tank divisions, also a cavalry brigade distinct from the semi-motorised cavalry regiments, which, in addition to horses, also use motor vehicles and bicycles. *
