TO-MORROW AT FORBURY PARK THE FIELDS AND ANTICIPATIONS The Spring Meeting of the Forbury Park Troting Club will be concluded to-morrow, and another interesting day’s light harness racing is promised. The fields are about the same size as yesterday, and as the same horses aro engaged form should work out well. If the present fine weather continues the track will again be very fast. The first race is timed to start at 12.30, and as was done yesterday, the totalisator will be closed sharp on the scheduled times. The following are the acceptances and anticipations:— 12.30 SUBURBAN HANDICAP, £175. Unhoppled trotters. Class 3.43. One mile and a-half. Escalade ... scr Tommy Guy 48 Syntax ... scr Esther ... 60 Traveltone ... scr Parrish Chimes 96 Bon Chance 36 Yesterday’s winner, Tommy Guy, has been penalised 48yds, and is now assessed at 3min 39sec. He won in 3min 28 2-ssec by a neck from Dalaruan, who has not been paid up for. Bon Chance, who will start off the same mark as in yesterday’s race, appeared to have the race at his mercy when he went to a bad break about half a mile from home. Esealado, who was well fancied yesterday, broke shortly after the start. In a poor field Bon Chance, Esealado, and Tommy Guy should be the best fancied. 1.5 EMPIRE HANDICAP, £2OO. Class 2.18. One mile. Bill B. ... scr Silver Laddie scr Credit Funds scr Mankind ... scr Gallinford ... scr Token ... scr Guncaso ... scr Waitemata ... scr Royal Travis scr leevus ... 12 Yesterday’s winner, Roan Duke, is not engaged, but Icevus, who was only beaten half a length in 2min 8 4-ssec, after losing four or five lengths at the start, again starts otf 41 2min 17soc mark. Guncase finished close up fourth and got a bad run in the straight, and Bill 8., who had all the hick of the running, was just a neck in front of him. Token, one of the favourites yesterday, was well up in the early stages, but was only sixth at the finish. Icevus, Guncase, and Bill B. are likely to be the favourites. 1.45ADVANCE HANDICAP, £175. Class 3.39. One mile and a-balf, •Anna Wong scr Gloiiholmc ... 12 Easter Rush scr Golden Miller 12 King Potts ~. scr Marfax ... 12 Siubad scr Mazaire ... 12 Attain 12 Seascape ... 12 Dancing Pirate 12 All Kings ... 24 Easter Rush and King Potts will be bracketed. Yesterday’s winner, Tinker, is not engaged, and Marfax, who was second in 3min 21 1-ssqc, appeared to be lucky to beat King Potts, who got pocketed in the run home. Marfax lias been penalised 12yds for his second, and King Potts should turn the tables on him to-morrow. Attain, who was favourite in yesterday’s race, broke badly at the end of two furlongs. Unless some of the others make marked improvement on yesterday’s form King Potts, Marfax, and Attain should be the best bets. 2.20 FORBURY HANDICAP, £450. Class 4.29. Two miles. Agile ... scr Renown’s Sea Gift ... scr Best ... 36 Southern Rocks Ahead 36 Smile ... scr Logan Derby 60 Big Author 24 Morello ... 60 Logan Derby, who won yesterday in 4min 22 2-ssec, has been penalised 12yds and meets the same horses he beat yesterday on much worse terms. The President’s Handicap was not a true run race, and the pace was only on over the last half-mile. The .Australian visitor had to bo driven out to beat Southern Smile by a long neck, but is likely to be improved by the race. Morello was close up third, and with a sounder run race to-morrow is likely to trouble Logan Derby. Big Author had every chance yesterday, but failed when the pace was cracked on, and Renown’s Best disappointed her backers by breaking at the start. Logan Derby, Morello, and Southern Smile should again fill the places. 2.55 BRIGHTON HANDICAP, £2OO. Class 3.16 = 3.34 for mile and a-half. One mile and three furlongs. Glcnastle ... scr Tritoma ... scr Jesse Owens scr Colonel AxJovial ... scr worthy ... 12 Sentiment scr Diversion ... 12 Stalwart ... scr Gay Avon ... 12 Stamboul ... scr Quest 12

Mazairo ... scr Privateer ... 48 Tinker ... scr Silver Laddie 48 Privateer won yesterday in 3min 1 4-5 sec after making a mistake about two furlongs from home, and has been penalised 48yds. Jesse Owens was second in 3min 2sec, a neck in front of Jovial, who led the field most of tho way. Quest made up Ids handicap quickly yesterday, but failed to stay on after being one of the first into tho straight. The favourite, Sentiment, ran very indifferently, but is likely to do better to-morrow, and the favourites are likely to be Sentiment, Jesse Owens, and Tritoma.

Golden Cross scr Harlequin 12 Roan Duke scr Marlene ... 12 Wee Wrack scr Morewa ... 12 Wynan ... scr Nell Grattan 12 Fremont ... 12 Fine Art just boat Nell Grattan yesterday in 3min 14 4-ssec, but has not been paid up for. Nell Grattan finished half a length in front of Morewa, and meets her on the same terms again. Fremont, after being prominent all the way until well into the straight, failed badly in the last furlong. Nell Grattan should be better fancied than either Morewa or Marlene. 4.5 VICTORIA HANDICAP, £2OO. (Unhoppled trotters). Class 3.56. One mile and live furlongs. Bosun scr ’ Tommy Guy scr Esther ... scr Parrish Parachute ... scr Chimes ... 24 Golden Manna’s Sou 30 Bingen ... scr Swift Guy 36 Gyrate, yesterday’s winner, hafe not been paid up for, and be was lucky to beat Swift Guy, who lost fully 100yds at the start. The latter has been penalised 12yds for yesterday’s performance, but that will not prevent him again being sent out a short-priced favourites. Of the others Golden Bingen and Esther appeal most. 4.40RECOVERY HANDICAP, £350. Class 2.44. One mile and a-quarter. Big Author scr Satin King 12 Glenrossie ... scr Renown’s Graham Best 12 Direct ... scr Logan Derby 24 Frisco Lady 12 Rocks Ahead .24 Morello ... 12 Satin King won yesterday in 2min 44 2-ssec by a length from Glenrossie, has been penalised 12yds, and both the latter and Graham Direct should beat him to-morrow. Morello spoilt what looked like a winning chance by breaking at the end of two furlongs. Should Logan Derby be started in tins race after his win oyer The same distance in the Free-for-all at Addington ho will be strongly fancied, but in his absence Morello, who won in 2min 40 2-ssec at Addington, Glenrossie, and Frisco Lady should be the favourites. JOTTINGS Parisienne. In answer to an inquiry, Parisienne was scratched for the Dash Handicap yesterday at 2.31 p.m. Parisienne was not brought down to the meeting with the remainder of R. B. Berry’s team, and could have been withdrawn much earlier. Attendance at Forbury Park, The gate receipts at Forbury Park yesterday were over £IOO better than on the corrsepouding day of this meeting last year. Progeny of Aged Sire. The world-record pacer Billy Direct was got when Ins sire, Napoleon Direct, was 23 years old. He races without hopples, but wears quarter, tendon, and knee boots. Lost Chances at Star. Neither Syntax nor Traveltone took any part in the Roslyu Handicap, as neither left the barrier. One broke bis over-chock and the other backed away as the tapes wore released. Bad Start Cost Iccvus Race. Tile Tasmanian-owned Nevus began very slowly in the St. Kilda Handicap, losing, several' lengths, and did well to finish second in a fast-run race. He will start at a shorter price in to-mor-row’s race. Satin King. When Satin King led the field home in the Dash Handicap he scored his first win since he put up a world’s winning race record, 4min r '6see, when lie won the Courtenay Handicap at Addington on November 9 five years ago. Disappointing Display. The most disappointing display at Forbury Park yesterday was that given by Sentiment in the Spring Handicap. Sent out a good favourite, Sentiment began slowly off the limit, and gradually drifted to the rear of the field, and was one of the last half dozen to finish. Unlucky. Guncase appeared to be unlucky in the St. Kilda Handicap. He was well placed throughout the running, but in the straight got pocketed next the rails and did not get an opening until too late. Guncase was travelling the fastest at the finish and should be worth following to-morrow. First For a Long Time. Roan Duke, winner of the St. Kilda Handicap, was driven by hisvtrainer, E. Todd, who has not done any driving lately, and steered his first winner for over a year. The Wyndham-traiued gelding was very smartly off the mark and never further back than fourth. Favourites Give Poor Display. Esealado, who was made a shortpriced favourite for the opening event at Forbury Park yesterday, gave his backers a poor run for their money as ho broke badly shortly after the start and really took no part in it. Bon Chance, a good second favourite, looked a certain winner until lie broke about three furlongs from home.

Spoiled Chances by Breaking. Attain, a good favourite for the Progressive Handicap, started from nest the rails, and began well enough, but at tho end of two furlongs broke very badly and lost all chance. Three other well-backed starters in the same race —Easter Rush and Alazaire—also spoiled their chances by breaking. A Good Performance. There was a lot of merit in Privateer’s win in the Spring Handicap yesterday as about two furlongs from home he skipped and lost some ground, but through the leaders running a little wide on the home turn ho was able to hold his position next the rails, and this enabled him to get through right on the post to beat Jesse Owens by a head. N A Great Pacer. At Addington earlier this month Fine Art won over two miles in 4min 21 l-ssec, a mile and a-quarter in 2min 41 3-ssec, and again in 2min 41 l-ssec. Yesterday he capped these fine performances by winning over a mile and a-half in 3min 14 4-ssec. The equivalent times for a mile for these performances are 2inin 10 3-ssec, 2mm 9sec, and 2rain lOsec. Single Pool Betting. There will be some smallish fields at Forbury, and there is no evidence of owners* appreciation of tho return to single-pool betting (says the Timaru < Herald ’). It cannot be proved that tho 75-25 system diverts money from the totalisator, but it is not disputed that it increases the volume of oft-tue-course speculation. \ A Brother to Indianapolis. Torquemada, a brother to Indianapolis, by -Wrack—Estella Amos, won the Western Handicap at the Wayville meeting in South Australia on November 12 Over 10 furlongs his nine rate was 2min 19 2-ssec. He started at a price that should have given his backers a good win for a moderate outlay. Swift Guy. Backers of Swift Guy lost interest in the Dominion Handicap when he failed to settle down at the start until the rest of the field was about 100yds on their journey. Over the next two furlongs Swift Guy did not make up much of ihe lost ground, but then benan to overhaul the leaders, and when he ran to the front at the home turn his backers thought they were on- a. sure winner. But the effort made in catching the field told its tale : over the last 50yds, and he was not able to stall off Gyrate’s good finishing run., Big Studs. Lord Glanely has the largest breeding establishment in Great Britain. Ho mated 5G mares last season, and though he breeds so many of his own he is invariably a buyer of other breedei's’ yearlings, and generally at high Although Lord Glanely leads as the owner of brood mares in England, his total does not approach that of Mr P. Miller, of the Kia Ora Stud in New South Wales. He has well over 100, and at the last autumn sales at Randwick catalogued 81 yearlings. Early Trotting Records. The first trotter in U.S.A. to break 2.30 was Lady Suffolk, wlm registered 2.26-away back in 1845. The first to rr e t under 2.20 was Flora Temple 2.192 Tl§s9), and the first in the 2.10 list was another mare, Maud S., who massacred all records by trotting 2.8 J. These horses pulled high-wheeled solidtvred sulkies a good deal heavier than the bicycle-wheeled spiders of to-day. Most of the trotters who established records subsequent to the day of Maud S. were assisted by pacemakers_carrying huge windshields, contrivances which are barred nowadays, and tho first 2.0 horse to trot a mile, without this aid was Uhlan 1.58. Riding at Ellerslie. The following riding engagements have been announced for the Auckland Racing Club’s Mid-spring Meeting, which opens to-morrow: —S. Tremam; Rajanya, Shelandry, Bronze Emerald, Love in Idleness. P. Fearn: Miss Appellant. Toolcy Street, Master Appe - lant. H. Wiggins: Oriental Bay, High Cast, Philcourt, Ringshot. W.
