AMERICAN FILMS IN ITALY DISTRIBUTION CENTRES CLOSING Press Association-By Telegraph—Copyrigb ROME, November 11. (Received November 12, at 1 p.m.) “ American films have poisoned the public,” declared the * Giornale d’ltalia ’ in welcoming the decision of the Mctro-Uoldwyn, Vox, Warner Bros., and Paramount corporations to close .their Italian distribution centres at the end of the year. The paper asked: “ Do the film companies believe that Greta Garbo, Norma . Shearer. Gary Cooper, Robert Taylor, and Laurel and Hardy are regarded as the personification of Italian ideals?” It add that the decision will allow Italy to defend its currency and the new national spirit.
