OBITUARY

MR J. H’ILREE The sudden death occurred yesterday at Macandrew Bay of Mr James M’llree. An engineer by occupation, he conducted for a number of years the business of Messrs J. M‘ilree and Co. Ltd. During the Great War he served abroad with the artillery. Mr M'llree took a keen interest in all the activities at Macandrew Bay, and was actively connected with a number of local bodies. He was chairman of the Ratepayers’ Association and a member of the School Committee. He was also a member of the Management Committee of the local Presbyterian Church Deceased is survived by his widow and one son. MISS M. BARBERY The death occurred at Birkenhead. Auckland, last week, of Miss Mary Bambery, well known in the Caversham and St. Leonards districts. She was the second daughter of Mr and Mrs Andrew Bambery. early settlers of St. Leonards, who were highly respected and nrominent workers in the Methodist Church. The deceased was of a quiet and unassuming nature. loved by the aged and infirm, whom she visited freouently. and to whom she loved to read the* Scriptures. She is survived hv three sisters and a brother—Mes-d-'nies Menzics and Harkness (DunedinL Mrs Brighton (Waitati), and Mr John Bambery (Waitati). CHIEF IHAIA HUTANA [Per United Press Association.] HASTINGS. November 11. The death occurred at Waipawa of lliaia Hutana, aged 95, chief of the Ngati-Kahungunu tribe in Hawke’s Bay. and a veteran of the Maori War in 1865-69 Chief Hutana held many posts in local bodies and under the Government. In 1907 he was appointed an assessor in the Native Land Court, a position which he held until 1914, when, ho retired to .taike up faming.
