NEGLIGENT DRIVING CHARGES
TRAVELLER COMMITTED FOR TRIAL [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, October 27. Arising out of an accident in Parnell road on tho evening of September 17, John Irvine Crawford, aged 26, a traveller, appeared in the Police Court before justices of the peace to answer four charges—namely, being intoxicated in charge of a car and causing bodily harm to Mrs Phyllis Stevenson, failing to stop and ascertain if anyone were injured, and negligent driving thereby causing bodily injury. The intoxication charge was adjourned sine die The evidence showed that Mrs Stevenson had been for three weeks in the Auckland Hospital with a cut
eye, a fracture of the forearm, and bruises. The car was proceeding at about 25 miles an hour, and the woman pedestrian was thrown on to the roadway. The car continued on, and later returned to the scone of the accident, and Crawford told a constable that be thought he had struck something. Crawford pleaded not guilty to the three charges and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was renewed.
