[From Our Oauaro Correspondent.] OAMARU BOROUGH COUNCIL. Recommendations in the committee reports, to be made to the Oamaru Borough Council to-night, are: —That accounts totalling £2,036 15s Id be passed for payment: that £2 2s be granted to the British Sailors’ Society; that half the rates on the Showgrounds (£ls 6s 3d) be remitted; that the terms of the clerical award be complied with ; that A. H. Chapman be granted further water supplies at an annual charge of £24; that no tender for a tar sprayer be accepted in the meantime ; that the owner of certain properties in Test street be asked if they are willing to bear part of the cost of laying an asphalt footpath; that the council pay half the cost of gravelling boundary road west (£25); that the Housing Department be advised that, until provision for the discharge of storm water from the Dart street area, the council would not petition to have the area brought into the borough; that Mr A. Crichton be granted permission to erect a garage; that the arrangements made with the Union Cricket Club as to King George’s Park be confirmed; that the Timaru Friendly Societies’ Picnic Committee be granted the use of the Gardens on January 28. “WOMEN’S C^JUB. Mrs JVM. Forrester over the annual meeting of the North Otago Women’s Club. The annual report disclosed a membership of 221. The death of two foundation members, Mesdames E. P. Lee and AV. J. AVylie, was recorded with deep regref. The club had a credit balance of £lO6 13s lOd, and the mortgage had again been reduced by £l2O. Donations were acknowledged from Miss Gilchrist, Mesdames W. H. Meek, W. M’Kerrow, and T. A. Wright, Dr R. S. Orbell and the Arts and Crafts Circle. Officers elected were:—President, Mrs J. M. Forrester; vice-presidents, Misses J. Gillespie and J. W. Mesdames M. F. Qualter, J. M. Wilson, T. Kennedy, R. A. M'Dowell, A. C. Piper, E. S. Stubbs, and G. Liddell. MAGISTRATE’S COURT. : At the Oamaru Magistrate’s Court yesterday Mr H. AV. Bundle, S.M., gave judgment by default for plaintiffs in the following civil cases Para Rubber Company v. L. A. AVaterrens, £4 Bs, costs £1 5s 6d; North Otago Farmers’ ;Co-operativo Association v. A. Brown, £4 8s 2d, costs £1 4s 6d; Hendy and Co. v. Dorothy G. Smith. £1 12s, costs Bs. VALEDICTORY. At a large gathering of friends, who honoured Miss Veda Clark at the Totara Hall on the eye of her marriage, token of appreciation of her work in their interests were presented on behalf of the following oganisations by Mrs M'Gimpsey (AA 7 omen’s Institute), Mr T. Howell (tennis club), Mr S. AVilson (Totara School Ex-pupils’ Association) . On behalf of the residents of the district Mr J. Richardson presented a cheque. Air Noel Newlands responded on behalf of Miss Clark. At a gathering at Hilderthorpo Miss Joan Duncan was the recipient of a chiming clock from the residents, in view of her approaching marriage. ARCHDEACON’S BIRTHDAY, A happy crowd gathered at St. Luke’s'Hall to celebrate the seventieth birthday of Archdeacon J. D. Russell. Mr A. Bloch presided, and felicitations were conveyed by the Mayor of Oamaru (Air K. Familton), the Rev. B. 0. Plumb, the Rev. A. AV. Stace (Maheno), the Rev. AV. Lawson Alarsh (Columba Presbyterian Church), the Rev. AV. B. Pickering (AVesley Church), Pastor Crawford (Church of Christ), Air J. C. Kirkness (St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church), Air H. Burgess (Totara), Alesdamcs B. O. Plumb (St. Luke’s Ladies’ Guild and Ngaio Girls’ Club), H. AATlliamson (Mothers’ Union), and W. Turvey (Newborough Ladies’ Guild), Alessrs H. J. Jenkins (St. Luke’s vestry), H. AVUliamson (Sunday School), F. C. Burry (organs Ist and choir), Aliss J. B. AVilson (AVaitaki Girls’ High School), Aliss Alackie (matron, Oamaru Hospital), Seniorsergeant T. I. , APGregor (police), Air AV. AA’iddowson (Toe H), and Air H. Williams (5.P.0.A.). Air Bloch made tbe gift of a gold watch, suitably inscribed, on behalf of parishioners and friends. Archdeacon Russell feelingly acknowledged the gift and good wishes. LAWN TENNIS. Fourteen teams have been entered for the North Otago Lawn Tennis Association’s competitions, as follows: Senior; AA r aimate A and B, Oamaru, Awamoa A and B, Aleadowbank, and Columba. Junior; AA’esloy, Columba, Friendly Bay, Papakaio. Aleadowbank, Pukeuri, and Oamaru. The competitions begin on Saturday. fl
