RAID IN MOST AREAS ' The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, covering the southern districts —Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Ta.panui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmoon Bay:— A depression is now crossing the Dominion. The lowest pressures are in the south, but the depression has a marked northward extension. Barometers have risen over eastern Australia. Forecast:—Light and variable winds at first, but freshening west or south-westerlies soon prevailing. Weather overcast, with rain in most districts, but later becoming less widespread. Temperatures becoming cooler. Seas slight to moderate, but rising about Foveaux Straits. LOCAL CONDITIONS. Early this morning rain began to fall in Dunedin, and continued intermittentlv, though lightly, throughout the forenoon. The sky was moderately overcast, but temperatures were mild, despite a light north-easterly breeze. There were no signs of a' cessation of the rain at 1 o’clock this afternoon, - when it seemed likely that unsettled conditions would prevail during the night also. Barometric pressure waa falling at 29.5 in in the city at 1 p.m., while the respective maximum and minimum thermometer registrations at the Gardens at this time from 9 a.m. were 54 and 50.9 deg, as compared with' 34.9 and 48.5 deg yesterday oyer a period of 24 hours from the same time.
