ELECTION RESULTS
THE CLGSE GALL FOR WAITAKI LABOUR CANDIDATE SEEKS MAGISTERIAL RECOUNT [Pee United Press. Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, October 27. Mr D. Barnes, the defeated Labour candidate for the Waitaki seat, has lodged an application for a Magisterial recount of the votes cast in his electorate at the election. Mr. Barnes, who held the Waitaki seat for the Government in the last Parliament, was unseated at the election by the National candidate, Mr D.- C. Kidd, who obtained a majority of 10 votes on the official count. This was a reduction of 52 votes on the majority he received at the preliminary count. EGMOHT MAJORITY INCREASED , ELTHAM, October 27. The final count of the Egmont electorate, completed last night, shows that Mr ; Wilkinson increased his majority by 27, the figures being:— C. A, Wilkinson (National) ... 5,063 T. E. Trask (Labour) 3,661 Informal, 82. Details of the allocation of absentee, postal, and declaration votes are:— Wilkinson: IQ3, 'BS, and 6. Trask: 108, 48, and 11. The total votes on the roll are 9,249; there were cast 8,806, or 95.2 per cent. LABOUR'S LEAD SWELLS CHRISTCHURCH, October 27. The official count for the Kaiapoi electorate shows that the successful candidate, Mr Morgan Williams (Labour) 'increased his lead over Mr G. C. Warren (National) from 1,350 to 1,535 compared with the first count. The official return was:— Morgan Williams ... 6,348 Warren 4,813 Majority for Williams, 1,535. Absentee votes: Williams 258, Warren 183; informal 11. Postal and seamen’s votes: Williams SO, Warren 74; informal 1. Declarations: Williams 4, Warren 4.
