Sir William Hunt is on a visit to Dunedin

Tennet, who has been visiting Dunedin on Government housing business, returned to Wellington by the express this'morning; Reference was made in the Legislative Council yesterday to the illness of the Chairman of Committees (Hon. J. A. Hanan), and the Leader of the Council (Hon. M. Fagan) moved that the Speaker (Sir Walter Carncross) should convey the Council’s sympathy to Mr Hanan and its sincere wishes for his speedy return to good health. Mr Fagan said that Mr Hanan was making good progress, and members all hoped that he would be with them when the Council met next year.

At the conclusion of the weekly practice on Thursday evening the First Church Choir held a pleasant social gathering, during which the opportunity was taken of saying farewell to Dr V. E. Galway on the eve of his six months’ visit to England and Europe. Several choir members spoke of the happy atmosphere that had exisited in the choir during Dr Galway’s 19 years’ service, and wished him bon voyage. On behalf of the choir, the Rev. W. Allen Stevely presented Dr Galway with a letter case, and Dr Galway suitably responded. Mr L. F. Moller, one of the Rhodes Scholars selected from the University of Otago in 1935, returned tp New Zealand yesterday (says a Press Association telegram from Wellington). Mr Moller took his degree of bachelor in civil law at Oxford in his second year, after which he has been writing a thesis on public policy in private international law for the degree of B.Litt. He has not yet received the result. Mr Moller has travelled in Russia. Germany, Italy, and France. He said 'he was rather disappointed in Russia, where it seemed that the organisation of the country was splendid, but the inhabitants were not taking .of their opportuniies. It would 'take time to give them a widened and comprehensive outlook. He would much rather have the opportunities of the German people. Mr*Moller intends to remain in New Zeaand. . Mr Bert Rawlinson, who hag retired from the employ of the ‘ Evening Star ’ Company Ltd. after' 30 years’ service, part ot it being as manager of the job printing department, was met by a representative gathering of employees yesterday afternoon and presented on behalf of them with a travelling rug and a crystal jug for Mrs Rawlinson. The presentation was made by Mr o. D. Smith, who referred to Mr Rawhnson’s popularity among the staffs of the various departments, and also with the general public.
