KING’S FLYING TOUR OF R.A.F. STATIONS.—His Majesty the King made a flying tour of Royal Air Force stations recently. He visited the four establishments at Northolt (Middlesex), Harwell (Berkshire), Upavon (Wiltshire), and Thorney Island (Hampshire). During his tour the King flew nearly 200 miles. His Majesty is being shown the workings of a Hawker Hurricane fighter aircraft by Squad-ron-leader J. W. Gillan, who recently flew one of these machines from Edinburgh to London at an average speed of 408.75 miles an hour—nearly 7 miles a minute.
