WELL-BALANCED POSITION SIR JOHN SIMON'S TRIBUTE (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 2, In proposing the toast of Canada af the Dominion Day dinner of the Can*, ada Club, held in London, at which ha was the principal guest, the Chancellor; of the Exchequer (Sir John Simon)] congratulated that country on its satisfactory financial and economic position It was. he said, a tribute to the well-, balanced economy which had been built up by successive Dominion Governments that, notwithstanding the depressedworld economic conditions and the failure of her own wheat crop, Canada s accounts for. the past financial year showed'that the revenue for that period was higher than at any previous time mi her history. , . , Sir John referred to the racial animosity in certain parts of the world* and added that Canada had set an example of how the spirit of freedom wag ■ best promoted by reconciliation between the different races different points of view. . , ' , The High Commissioner for Canada (Mr Vincent Massey), who presided, said that one of the factors which had helped Canada to stand more firmly on its own economic footing was the development of Imperial trade and the svstem of preference between Canada and other British communities.
