Munio, MrP., and xVli; Peter Neilson, M.P., returned- from Wellington on Saturday afternoon. Mr T. K. 8. Sidey returned on Saturday after a visit to Wellington. Mr J. J. Marlow was unanimously, elected patron of the St. Kiida Bowl* ing Club at the annual meeting oa Saturday night. Reference to the deaths of Messrs M. J. Hade, W. Smith, and D. M‘Corkindaie was made at the annual meet* ing of the St. Kiida Bowling Club on Saturday night, and a motion of sym* pathy was carried. Members of tbe staff of the Hillsida Railway Workshops assembled on Frf* day afternoon to bid farewell to Mr Oj Quaid, who will leave to-morrow for; Wellington, where he -will join the All Black team for Australia. On behalf of his fellow employees, the -manager,, Mr J. M. Slowley, presented Mr Quaid with a wallet and said it was an honcmi; that a member of the Hillside Shog should- be chosen to represent the Do-* minion on the field of sport. On Wednesday evening last Mr Quaid was tha guest at a social tendered in his honour? by the Southern Football Club, andl was presented by his clubmates with ai wristlet watch. A Wellington Association message states that Mr H. S. Barnes, manager; of Dalgety and Co. in Wellington, ia retiring owing to ill-health, and will ba succeeded by Mr C. E. Holmes, of Hamilton. Mr G. H. Elliffe,. District Publia Trustee, returned from the North} Island on Saturday. A Press Association cable message from London states thati Major Harold Temperley will sue* ceed Field-marshal Sir William Birdwood as Master of Peterhouse, Cambridge. Major Temperley is at present professor of modern history at Peterhouse. A Masterton Press Association tele* gram states that Mr J. P. Hornabrook,. New Zealand open golf champion and former amateur title-holder, has resigned from the Bank of. New Zealand! at Palmerston North and accepted a position as .the.
