EXPRESS TRAIN CRASH

It is estimated that 67 are dead as the result of the transcontinental express train crashing through a washedout bridge. Rescue workers have recovered 40 bodies from the wreckage, and nearly SO are believed to have been trapped in a tourist car which is submerged in mud and cannot be reached by the rescue workers. Another car balanced on the edge of the collapsed bridge while the passengers escaped, and 16 minutes later it plunged into the creek, burying itself in mud and water. The dead and injured include many women and children. Many bodies cannot be identified. It is feared that marly who are buried in the mud or were washed down the river will never be found. The bodies of the driver and the fireman were found inside the twisted, locomotive cab. The mail clerk was pinned in his car as the engine 'cat through it. Rescue workers and survivors smashed windows and waded through debris, searching for bodies and the injured.
