TELEGRAPHIC MATCH The-first session of play in the telegraphic match between the Otago and Canterbury Chess Clubs toolk place on Saturday evening. In an endeavour to speed up play, clocks were used on some of the higher boards, with favourable results. So far, only two games have been finished, Canterbury scoring a win at board 6, where E. Hey (Canterbury) was able to win the Otago player’s queen for a bishop, the Otago man resigning a few moves later. Otago scored a win at board 18, when Dr G. Barnett beat A. E. Ault, who played Tarrasch’s defence to tho queen’s gambit. Canterbury won the toss and took the white pieces at the odd boards.
