LAWRENCE NOTES
NEW ZEALAND LABOUR PARTY. The monthly meeting of the Law rence branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was held on Saturday night A large attendance of members was present. Mr R. Robson (president) was in the chair. In connection with the proposal of the Department of Agriculture to acquire farm property in the South Otago district for the purpose of an experimental farm, it was decided to convey to the Minister the branch’s approval of the scheme, and to point out that in securing this property the department must secure one comprising first, second, and third-grade land to successfully carry out the object of experimental farming. The Minister wrote stating that, in the interests of mining development, he did not consider that the Employment Department would be justified in curtailing future mining development by supporting the Lawrence Golf Club in its proposal to convert part of the Wetherstones Flat into a golf course The application of the branch regarding the full time employment of unem ployed men on the road construction works being carried out on the main highway between Manuka Creek and Rae’s Junction would be considered by the department at an early date. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
