EXPRESS RUNS INTO BOULDER
ATTEMPT TO WRECK TRAIM SUSPECTED ALMOST A DISASTER [Per United Press Association.] WHANGAREI, June 4. A large boulder, believed to have been deliberately placed on the railway line, a quarter of a mile south of Kaikohe, almost brought disaster to the north-bound express last evening. The engine crushed the boulder, which crumpled the cowcatcher. The boulder was of sufficient size to derail the train had the driver not reduced speed in time.
