BUCK BANNER’S EASY WIN BRIGHTON HANDICAP TO SILVER SUPPER OPENING DAY OF D.J.C. RAGES After a week of mixed weather the Dunedin Jockey Club was favoured with perfect weather for the opening of its Winter Meeting at Wingatui this afternoon, and there was a very large attendance, including a big contingent of country visitors. Burwood jumped out smartly from the start, but Converse landed just m front of Jollyanna, Burwood, Octane, and Bally Brit. Jollyanna and Octane led over the post and rails, then Burwood and Coid Wren ran up and led Jollyanna, Octane, and bally Brit over the water jump, and at the stand double Burwood and Gold Wren were four lengths clear from Jollyanna, Octane, Bally Brit, who were together, well clear from Quinopal. The order was the same at the big sod wall, where Cay Boa fell, and at the next fence, where Burwood and Gold Wren were well clear from Jollyanna and Bally Brit. Red Terror baulfced. Burwood and Gold Wren were well clear from Jollyanna and Bally Brit going along the back, and at tlie post and rails at the far turn Burwood drew out two lengths clear from Bally Brit and Cold Wren, with Jollyanna four lengths away. At the water jump LSally Brit joined Burwood, but going to the last fence Burwood drew away again, and in the run home beat Bally Brit by a length and a-half. Cold Wren was 20 lengths away third, two length in front of Jollyanna. who pulled up very lame. Quinopal and Converse were nest. Time, smm 4scc.

The field was in fair line when the harrier was released, but the outside horses squeezed in and only about half jumped out shiartly, and Camerino and Invadere were badly left. Palastyle, Cone Peak. Sheeney, and Auctor were the smartest out. When the field settled down Cone Peak was in charge and led round the far turn from Triple Cone, Palastyle, Hunting Chorus, and Sheeney. Halfway up the rise Triple Cone was just in front of Palastyle, Hunting Chorus, Gay Vixen, Cone Peak, and Ramana. Hunting Chorus and Gay Vixen headed Triple Cone on the home turn, and they were followed by Auctor, Sheeney, and) Ramana. Hunting Chorus drew clear before reaching the distance and won by nearly two lengths from Auctor, who finished fast to beat Gay Vixen a short neck.
