FIERCE JUNE GALE

TREMENDOUS DAMAGE IN ENGLAND CHANNEL AND SOUTHERN COUNTRIES SWEPT SHIPS ASHORE AT DEAL Press Association— By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, June 2. (Received June 3, at 8 a.m.) The fiercest June gale in living memory, reaching at times a velocity of 100 miles an hour and accompanied by rain and thunder, is sweeping the Channel and Southern England. The gale has already caused tremendous damage. Lifeboats at points on the coast have gone to the assistance of distressed vessels. Several ships are ashore at Deal. Dover, where a cloudburst occurred, is flooded to a depth of 2ft. Marquees at the Epsom racecourse, where the Derby was run yesterday, were torn to ribbons, and bookmakers’ stands were wrecked.
