LICENSING CONTROL
ASHBURTON SEEKS REVISION OF LAW [Pm Uicrran Peeks Association.] ASHBURTON, June 3. A deputation asked the Hon. H. 6. E. Mason lor an amendment of the law to give the people of Ashburton the same measure of control over licensing matters as was enjoyed by the rest or the Dominion. The Minister replied that he felt very strongly that the licensing laws generally required early revision, but he would be quite frank—there was no prospect of attention being given to the question this year. The time between now and the election would be taken up_ with a programme of social amelioration, °f which the national superannuation scheme was the most important. He would do his best to have attention given to the matter as soon as possible after the election of the new Parliament.
Mr Mason officially opened tho new courthouse.
