NEW CUNARDER

GIANT BOILERS DESIGNED The 12 main boilers 'to be installed in the Queen Elizabeth—the giant. Cunaijd- : White Star liner which is to bo launched : at Clydebank by the Queen in September—are (writes Hector C. Bywater, in the ‘ Daily Telegraph and Morning Post ’) the largest that have ever been built for marine purposes. Several have already been completed by the builders, John Brown and Co., and they are now being moved from the ‘ shops to make room for others. So enormous are the finished boilers that part of the wall has had to be knocked down to get them out of the shop. As they are too big to be lifted into ' the ship complete, they will have to be ' dismantled, lowered into the boiler ; rooms in sections, and reassembled there. Excellent progress is being made with ■ the ship herself, and work is right up to schedule. . Already the launching: ways are being built up, and two of the huge launching “ triggers ” are in position. . , The Queen Elizabeth’s' decorative scheme strikes many new notes. Outside firms,, who are employing many eminent- artists, are responsible for the •decorations in the first class accommodation. ’Those in the tourist class are being designed by the Cunard-White Star Company’s own experts, and those in.,the, third class by John Brown- and . Co..'working under Cunard supervision. The touristy main entrance and stair- : way will be in. elm and oak veneers - with mirror frames of silver, bronze, and metal mouldings. In'the tourist dining saloon,' which, will:be lighted entirely by artificial means, the decorative thenie -will' be .silver and primrose, and mirrors will be lavishly employed to increase the effect of lightness. All the third class public rooms are to bo panelled with polished woods, maple . and silky oak predominating. Special attention is being paid to the crew’s accommodation, which, it _is claimed, will be far superior to that in any other liner afloat. " ■ ’ , ' -
