4,163 Majority Over Mr Cox Mr M. Silverstone Amongst the Banished In a record poll of 31,866 electors out of a roll of 44,287, Labour was ousted yesterday from its dominating position in civic affairs, and reduced to the position it occupied three years ago -of having three representatives on a council of twelve, with also a Citizens’ Association • mayor. The victory of Mr A. H. Allen over the Rev. E. T. Cox for the mayoralty was so sweeping as to surprise even his most optimistic supporter. He, polled 17,899 votes, 4,163 in excess of his opponent’s tally.
