WOMEN’S HOCKEY

EXECUTIVE MEETING The weekly meeting of the executive of the Women’s Hockey Association was attended by Mrs Nelson (chairwoman), Mrs Duncan. Mrs Borthwick, and Misses Robinson, Adams, Wilson. Mitchell, Morton, Hill, Foley, and Lee. Prior to the commencement of the ordinary business of the evening, representatives from Otago, Momona, Dunedin, Kings, University Brighton, Carlton, Y.W.C.A., Bounty, and Training College Clubs attended and Mrs Nelson explained various matters of importance in connection with matches. Club secretaries were requested to put the names of members of teams in Fridays’ newsr papers. On Saturdays, the first matches will start at 1.30 p.m., and the second at 2.45 p.m. sharp, the captains of winning teams to arrange for reports of matches. Each team will be responsible for the collecting of flags on one side of the ground. Owing to the increased cost of transport to West Taieri, Mrs Nelson said that players were to pay Is 6d per head, and each club is asked to contribute 8s 6d, the West Taieri Club paying the balance of the fare. The necessity for obtaining transfers was also impressed upon players. Miss Hill, convener of the Billeting Committee, reported that all billets for the English team had been arranged, prominent citizens having agreed to take the players. Mrs J. Duncan, convener of the Entertainment Committee, submitted tentative arrangement' for entertaining the team. These are: Thursday evening, civic reception; Friday, visit to Home Science School and short motor drive; Saturday afternoon, match at Carisbrook. and in the evening dinner and entertainment by Renertory Society: Sunday, motor trip. The Umpires’ Association submitted the following three names, which are to be forwarded to the New Zealand Association for one appointment as umpire in the match with Miss Warrick:—Mes'rs L. Ireland. J. Martyn. and A. Sew Hoy. A letter was received from the University Students’ Association, granting permission to use the University enclosure for the seven-a-side tourney on June 6. entries for which will close on May 30. Entry fees will be 5s for the first team and 2' 6d for each subsequent team The time of commencement will depend upon the number of "nt”iea and will be published later. Mr J. Martvn was re-annointed practical examined of umpires. Permission was granted to Training College to play in the inter-college tournament at Christchurch on June 14 and 15.
