AIR CRASH TRAGEDY. An inquiry into the cause of thecrash of the air liner near Mangere was opened at the scene of the fatality to-day, when the wreckage ■was inspected hy Squadron-leader Olson, officer in charge of the Hohsonvillc air base, and .Mr 1 1 . 1 arid), assistant inspector of aircraft for the Air Department, Wellington. and officers of the Union Airways. No statement was made. The inspection is still proceeding. Mr F. Maurice Clarke, manager of Union Airways, Mr L. Maugham, chief engineer, and Commander Blythe, chief pilot, both of Union Airways, arrived by the liner Kuaka from Wellington today and u ore present at the inspection.—Auckland Press Association. BAKERY FIRM’S DRIVERS ON STRIKE. Alleging that one of their number had been victimised by being dismissed, the drivers employed by a bakery firm at Mount Eden struck this morning. Although the full quantity of bread; was baked last night, no delivery was made this morning, and the men are picketing the factory to prevent delivery in case vehicles are supplied by other firms. A conference between the principal of the firm concerned with the secretary of the Employers’ Association, the secretary of the Auckland Drivers’ Union, and representatives of the men proved abortive. The Minister of Labour was communicated with by telephone to Wellington, and Mr Armstrong promised to look into the matter. —Auckland Press Association. STOCK EXCHANGE. GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER. A verdict of not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter was returned by the jury in the Swanson trial. The prisoner was remanded for sentence.—Auckland.
