Complete agreement on all clauses of the proposed new award lor saddlers and canvas workers of thef Northern. Taranaki. Wellington, Otago and Southland industrial districts was reached in the Conciliation Council m Wellington to-day. The new award includes Dunedin workers, who have not previously been governed by any industrial agreement, and is to last a year, coming into force on May 18. Several shipping companies were struck off the list governed by the award to allow a new dispute to be filed governing shipping company workers. It was agreed to fix wages ranging from 17s 6d a week to 2s 9d an hour for sailmakers and 2s 8d an hour for tent and cover makers for males, and for females from 15s to £2 7s 6d a week. The employers’ proposal to pay an overtime rate of time and a-half for the first four hours and double time thereafter or Is 6d an hour, whichever is the greater, was accepted. It was also agreed to pay double /rates for all work on public holidays. On the completion of 12 months’ service the workers are to be granted annual holidays on full pay for the days between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. It was agreed not to allow female workers to handle canvas exceeding 401 b in weight.
