WRECKED BY EXPLOSION

POWER BOARD’S PAYMENT [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 9. The payment of £3OO for the replacement of stock destroyed when the chemist shop of Mr R. D. Wylie, at the corner of Remuera road and Victoria avenue, was wrecked following an explosion which occurred at Remuera on January 9, was agreed to at a meeting of the Auckland Electric Power Board to-day. The board had previously agreed to meet the cost of the reinstatements necessary to the building in terms of the report of the board’s architect, but the final sum has not yet been determined. A letter was received from the board’s solicitors suggesting that Mr Wylie’s position might be assisted by . the payment, without prejudice to the board’s position, of £3OO on account of the claim for £1034 submitted by Mr Wylie for loss of stock. If this proposal was approved, the letter added, the sum could then be included with the money paid by the board to provide for the rebuilding of the shop. . The chairman of the board (Mr S. J. Harbutt) said the assessment of the damage done to Mr Wylie’s stock had not yet been completed, but the payment of £3OO would not prejudice the board’s position and would materially assist Mr Wylie to carry on his business.
