THE MAGNETO CLUB

At the last meeting of the Magneto Club, Mrs R. Frasers presentation of * The Road to Connaught ’ was acclaimed by the audience as an exceptionally good dramatic offering. The scene was laid in the Ireland of Cromwell’s troubled period, and Mrs Fraser appeared as Nell, a girl who had rejected her faith and left her parentis to marry one of Cromwell’s men and live free from persecution. Mr Nugent Menzies made his debut on tho Magneto Club stage ns Mark, her brother, who, after embracing the priesthood, had risked his life to go to Leinster to rescue his sister. Mr Stan Mee played the part of John, Nell’s husband, a man torn between devotion to duty and love of his wife. Each member of the cast gave an excellent (performance, and the sincerity of the acting, combined with the effectiveness of the simple sotting, made the play one to be remembered.

The second half of the evening’s entertainment formed a pleasing contrast, for it took the form of a comedy, ‘ Far Away,’ produced by. Miss Gladys M'Tigue. The cast was as follows— Mrs Ladsloye, Miss Alma Jenkins; Qneenie, Miss Ann Merchant; Penny, Miss Molly Martin ; Mrs Considino, Miss Lola Fox; Miss Grimwade, Miss Eileen Mee; and Nancy, Miss Violet Mee. This was an amusing comedy, with a touch of that sentimentality which is dear to tho hearts of most audiences. The various parts were well played, but Miss Molly Martin’s portrayal of the little scullery maid and Miss Lileen Mee’s characterisation of the part' of the maiden aunt were unusually successful. The audience showed by spontaneous applause that they hail thoroughly appreciated two ’outstanding presentations.
