In the Supreme Court William diaries Norman, who was found guilty of rape, assault so as to cause bodily harm, assault, and also with escaping from custody, was sentenced to a total of six and a-half years’ imprisonment and declared an habitual criminal. The first-mentioned offences took place at Otaki. The prisoner .escaped from a train while under police escort. His Honour, Mr Justice Blair, said that the prisoner, since 1922, had spent very little time oi(t of gaol. He added that Norman had been found guilty of a frightful crime. . Robert George Gibson, found guilty of committing an indecent act. was admitted to probation for three years and ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution.
