OBITUARY

CAPTAIN H. WHITE-PARSONS For 25 years harbour master at Napier, Captain Horace White-Parsons died suddenly from heart failure at Auckland ou Tuesday night when on holiday leave. He was 62 years of age. Prior to taking up his position with the Napier Harbour Board the deceased was for many years in the service of the Union Steam Ship Company Ltd., which he entered in 1897. He had command of several of the company’s wellknown coastal and intercolonial vessels, including the Penguin, the Mapourika, the Arahura, and the Monowai. During the Great War he served on board H.M.S. Cornwall and H.M.S. Vivid. Captain White-Parsons was one of the busiest men in Napier in the days that followed the "earthquake disaster of February, 1031, and he rendered valuable service. From the time of the first shock he was tireless and unceasing in his efforts to bring order out of the confusion and comfort in the universal distress. ’ Later he accomplished valuable work in recharting the harbour and its approaches to define the exact nature of the changes brought about by the ■ upheaval.
