ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
COUNCIL'S MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was held last night. The president (Mr C. A. Wilspn) was in the chair. STOCKING TWO STREAMS. When consideration was being given to the Angling Committee’s report, the chairman suggested that the upper reaches of the Waipahi and the Waipori rivers—especially the former stream—he restocked with trout, and it was agreed to adopt his suggestion. GAME COMMITTEE. The Game Committee reported that the Department of Internal Affairs had advised of recommendations pertaining to the season this year for game, and that the secretary would write to the Southland Society explaining the position in detail. The report was adopted. ANGLING COMMITTEE. The proposed fish ladder in the Leith was the subject of a report by Air J. Alaconie, chairman of the Angling Com-
mittee, which urged that the work be expedited before April, when the spawning fish run up the stream in numbers. The allocation of fingerlings was referred to himself and Mr Wilson. On the recommendation of Mr S. H. Barnes, the committee had agreed that posts bo erected on the headland running from Michio’s Crossing near Waitati to a point at Rabbit Island to mark the netting boundaries at Blueskin Bay, The committee had been informed by the Glenpark Flour Milling Company, Palmerston, that its water rights had been disposed of to Mr H, Johnston, who had been asked to remove portion of the weir to enable trout to go up the Shag River. The report was adopted.
