Jack Crawford, writing in the 1 Daily Telegraph,’ says: The play in {he New South Wales girls’ tennis championships proved that the New Zealand standard is at least equal to ours. Misses Beverley and Wilson particularly impressed. Miss Beverley makes all her shots with a purpose, and when she strengthens her service she should be outstanding. Miss Armstrong has a well-produced game, and is likely to improve.
NEGRO ATHLETE 100 METRES RECORD PARIS, February 28. (Received March 1, at 11 a.m.) The International Committee has ratified Jesse Owens’s 10.2 sec record for the 100 metres, regarding which there has been a controversy owing to repeated measurements of his lane showing it either correct or a fraction •f an . inch under the distance. Scientists i attributed the variation to the earth’s minute shrinkages, due to changes in temperature.
