MODERN EQUIPMENT AT SGE Modern ideas, combined with expert construction, have resulted in the latest Western Australian broadcaster, 6GE, which, it is said, can stand comparison nvith any station in the country. It was officially opened last October, and is operated by Great Northern Broadcasters Ltd. 6GE is situated at Geraldton, some 100 miles from Perth, and serves a largo district in the north-west, where listeners previously knew but little of the benefits of wireless. The transmitter, situated at Deepdale, four miles from Geraldton, is powered at 500 watts, but is capable of delivering 1,000 watts, and this increase is contemplated shortly. The masts appear to be rather low, being only 150 ft, but the strength of the signals delivered back into the city of Perth, over country most unfavourable to radio waves, proves the efficiency of the system in use. Likewise the Geraldton studios include the latest equipment and are modern to the last detail. The programmes are compiled to appeal to every taste and mood of the lisener, and include . women’s sessions, always of importance to the country housewife; reports for the farmer and business man; children’s sessions; and, of course, musical entertainment, the station carrying 30,000 recorded l titles. Weekly relays are carried from Sydney, bringing New South Wales entertainment into the homes of the Far West. New Zealand can claim an interest in 6GE, as Mr Bryan Henderson, station manager, counts Wanganui as’his home town. Mr Henderson is keenly interested in reception reports from over here, and, considering the quality of reception experienced during the summer, he will receive many letters from this side. 6GE transmits on 1,370 kc (219 metres), and is heard after 2MO closes down.
