LABOUR POLICY.

TO THU EDITOR. Sir,—l was intrigued to read in a letter from Mr Ruttledge, president of tho 0.L.R.C., which appeared in Saturday’s ‘ Star,’ that in effect the rank and file of unions were privileged to select the Labour candidates and dictate their policy, and not labour union secretaries, who, according to the writer, were popularly supposed to exercise that function. Would Mr Ruttledge amplify that statement by informing us whether the rank and file authorised beforehand the Government’s volte face in the matter of broadcasting in general and of the B stations in particular, and also whether they were consulted regarding the increases in salary to Public Servants, whereby high-salaried officers received increases equal to the total pay of thousands of the rank and file of the public service, and nearly half the total salary of many others, with heavy responsibilities, who have over a long period rendered skilled service to the State and who have not received any increase at all, contrary to general belief. In view of the fact that I am not hurling accusations at tho Labour Party

but asking for information, I hap© Mr Euttledge will excuse my anonymity.— I am, etc., Inquirer. February 14.
