EAST TAIERI CHURCH

The induction of the Rev. Stanley C. Read to the charge of East Taieri Presbyterian Church took place in the presence of a large congregation. The acting-moderator, Rev. D. N. Mackenzie (West Taieri) presided, and gave the charge to the new minister, who was then ordained-by the Presbytery. The Rev. A. Hogg (Opoho)] addressed the congregation and Principal J. Dickie the minister. The Rev. J. Cairney (Ravensbourne) gave the charge to the people. After the ceremony an adjournment; was made to Kinmont Hall, where 4 reception was held. The interim moderator (the Rev. Hugh Graham) presided over a large attendance. All the Mosgiel churches were represented, and several office-bearers and members of the, Allanton Church were also present. Congratulatory addresses were delivered by Principal Dickie, Dr' S. F. Hunter, Professor J. Collie, and the Revs. D. N. Mackenzie and A.; W. Armstrong. Interspersed amongst! the addresses were items by the choir. Welcome speeches were made by Mr* M'Bryde (on behalf of .the ladies), and Messrs J. A. Borrie and Nichol, Mr Read, who received a hearty welcome, said he would do his utmost to live up to tho reputation of former East Taieri ministers. In the course of the evening reference Was made to the absence through illness of _Mr W. Kirk, and , a minute of appreciation of his services to the congregation during the vacancy was passed. Mr Borrie presented the interim moderator (Mr Graham) with a cheque and < thanked him for his pastoral care during the vacancy of from four tq five months.
